7th Grade Art Classes

Exploring Art (Art, semester, grade 7)
This introductory art course is required in seventh grade. This course introduces students to art in their world. The students will learn to create their own art as well as perceive art made by others. Students will use art criticism, aesthetics, history and production to explore art. Students will learn design elements and principles that will be used for studio experiences, analysis and interpretation.

The Minnesota Academic Standards in the Arts are aligned with this course.

 


8th Grade Art Classes

Understanding Art (Art, quarter, grade 8)
Students will continue to develop and expand on the concepts that they learned in Exploring Art. They will learn to create, describe, analyze, interpret and judge works of art using the elements and principles of art. Students will explore drawing, painting, and 3 dimensional design.


 

8th and 9th Grade Art Classes

Design Basics (Art, semester, grade 8 or 9)
Design Basics is one of two prerequisites to additional courses in the high school art program. The course is designed in brief, concise units, which include:

  1. Suggestions for developing visual awareness to commonplace things - to make the language and reality of art come alive.
  2. Comparisons and discussions lead to: challenging, creative, and critical thinking, and bring the individual student to respond to the arts.


Fundamentals of Art (Art, semester, grade 8 or 9)
Fundamental of Art is also a prerequisite to additional courses in the high school art program. This course allows students to explore:

  1. Experimental ideas for creative experience - to develop a sensitive understanding of the relationship between the students creative ideas and selected art media.
  2. Visual experiences - to help students relate to a wider range of creative activities.

The Minnesota Academic Standards in the Arts are aligned with this course.
